Indigenous History Month 2026

June 3, 2026

National Indigenous History Month in Canada is a time to honour and celebrate the cultures, traditions and histories of Indigenous Peoples.

The history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada is rich and deep. In Saskatchewan, we live on Treaty territories and within the homeland of the Métis, where Indigenous perspectives and lived experience continue to shape our communities.

National Indigenous History Month also invites reflection. It calls on us to acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonization and to consider how each of us can contribute to meaningful reconciliation in our workplaces, communities, and daily lives.

How to get involved

We encourage everyone to explore events being held across the province this month and deepen your understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and our shared past.

Here are some events happening this June:

  • Ācimowin Film Festival: Running at the Roxy Theater starting June 3, 2026, at 7:00 PM, this is Saskatchewan’s premier Indigenous film festival showcasing a curated selection of Indigenous films. (Ācimowin Film Festival | Saskatoon SK | Facebook)
  • Royal Saskatchewan Museum: Hosting numerous events including and SGI Solstice Speaker Series with Michal Greyeyes, a Mini Powwow Celebration, and more. (Events « Royal Saskatchewan Museum
