2023-2024 ANNUAL REPORT

CHIEF COMMISSIONER’S MESSAGE

It is a privilege to present the 2023-24 annual report, my first as Chief Commissioner of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission. This report is a snapshot of the actions and accomplishments of the Commission during the past fiscal year. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to former Interim Chief Commissioner Barry Wilcox

OUTGOING CHIEF COMMISSIONER’S MESSAGE

The benefit of closing out a chapter of one’s life is the opportunity for sober reflection. My nearly 13-year tenure with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission has revealed to me how the Commission is generally viewed by the public through a one-dimensional lens.

BY THE NUMBERS

The Commission helps protect and promote the human rights, freedoms, and dignity of people throughout Saskatchewan. These are the numbers.

OUR PROCESSES

The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission is commited to providing the highest quality of service to the people of Saskatchewan.

COMPLAINT RESOLUTIONS

The Commission uses mediation as an effective means to resolve complaints and achieve appropriate resolutions that meet the needs of the parties.

LEGAL + LITIGATION

The Commission’s legal team uses litigation and Directed Mediation to settle complaints.

SYSTEMIC INITIATIVES

The Commission uses systemic advocacy to address discrimination that is known to, or has the potential to, affect groups of people based on protected grounds.

PUBLIC EDUCATION

The Commission informs citizens about their rights, how they are protected by law, and provides information to reduce errors that lead to breaches of the Code.
